Annapurna Uphill Trek – Sunrise Views and Himalayan Adventure.
The Annapurna Uphill Trek, also known as the Poon Hill Sunrise Trek, is a short yet incredibly scenic journey through the Annapurna region. Ideal for beginners, families, and those with limited time, this trek combines lush forests, terraced fields, cultural villages, and breathtaking mountain panoramas. The highest point of the trek is Poon Hill (3,210m), where you can witness one of the most magnificent sunrises over the Annapurna Himalayan range.
Throughout the trek, you pass through charming villages inhabited by Magar, Gurung, Bahun, and Chhetri communities. The locals are known for their warmth, humor, and hospitality, making you feel at home even far from your country. The trail winds through dense rhododendron forests, subtropical valleys, and terraced fields, with occasional wildlife sightings, including monkeys and deer. During spring, the forests burst into color with blooming rhododendrons and magnolias, creating a vibrant, almost magical landscape.
The trek offers a photographer’s paradise, with sunlit peaks of Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Annapurna I (8,091m), Machhapuchhre (6,993m), Hiunchuli, and other peaks towering above rice terraces, forests, and rivers. The sunrise from Poon Hill illuminates the entire Himalayan panorama, leaving trekkers in awe.
Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul (1,010m), taking around 2–3 hours. Along the way, you’ll pass charming villages such as Birethanti, Hille, and Tikhedhunga, with the Burundi Khola running alongside the road. From Ulleri, the trek starts through dense oak and rhododendron forests, gradually climbing to Banthanti (2,250m).
Keep your eyes open for wildlife, such as long-tailed monkeys (Langur) jumping in the trees. After a steady ascent to Nangethanti (2,460m), you will reach Ghorepani (2,860m) in about 4–5 hours. Ghorepani is a picturesque village surrounded by rhododendron forests, perfect for an overnight stay in a cozy teahouse.
Wake up early for a short hike to Poon Hill (3,210m), the highest viewpoint of the trek. After sunrise, return to Ghorepani for breakfast and continue trekking to Tadapani (2,520m). The trail passes along forested ridges with pine and rhododendron trees, waterfalls, and streams. You may encounter clear natural pools along the way before reaching Tadapani, which gets its name from the local water source. Overnight at a teahouse with mountain views.
After breakfast, the trail descends steeply through rhododendron forests and terraced fields toward Kimrong Khola, offering excellent views of the upper Modi valley. Cross a suspension bridge and climb gently to a Gurung village, where you may choose to contribute to the local school or community.
From here, continue ascending slightly to Chommrong (2,140m), where peaks like Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and Fishtail dominate the skyline. A short steep climb brings you to Jhinu Danda (1,780m), where you can relax in the natural hot springs, a perfect reward after a day of trekking. Overnight at a teahouse.
Today’s trek begins with a descent to Komrong Khola, crossing a new suspension bridge beside a waterfall. Continue along the forested riverside trail, passing trekkers heading to other popular trails. The path climbs gently through Landruk village and Tolka, where forests alive with birds, ferns, and orchids create a serene atmosphere.
The trail then climbs to Bheri Kharka and Deurali (2,010m), offering panoramic views of the Pokhara valley and Dhampus village. Proceed to Pothana village, where a tourist check post is located, before reaching Australian Camp (2,060m). Overnight at the camp with breathtaking mountain vistas.
